STC Donations

The Susquehannock Trail Club (STC), being a qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organization, accepts tax-deductible donations to further its vision of promoting the responsible recreational use and proper forest management of woodlands, with the Susquehannock State Forest being its primary focus. In doing so, financial support is always helpful to successfully maintain the forest trail system in order to provide an example area for the public.

In 1998 STC donations, in the amount of $2,352.00, paid for a new footbridge along the Fish Trail crossing of Lyman Run near Lyman Lake. Then again in 2008, STC provided $1,000.00 to the Keystone Trails Association (KTA) to help finance a new $8,000 footbridge across the Left Branch of Young Woman's Creek where the Morgan Hollow Trail joins the Long Hollow Trail along the STS.

There are still many areas of the trail system that need improvement. We are hoping to resurface several wet or steep areas to reduce erosion, and will need to purchase materials to do so. We are also planning to upgrade existing parking facilities along the trail and perhaps add additional ones. Both of these projects are going to need gravel and possibly road fabric to assist in drainage.

Other donations have been used to purchase a few tools needed to maintain the trails such as a heavy-duty weed whacker, a brush blade for the weed whacker, and a Stihl 250 chain saw with chaps. In the near future we would like to expand the equipment inventory with a few more weed whackers, chain saws, loppers just to name a few.

Part of maintaining the trail system is to have legible signs for hikers to navigate the trail system. In doing so, we must carry the signs and posts into the woods, sometimes a few miles or more, on foot. In doing so, we are looking to purchase a deer cart for moving heavier equipment and supplies into the woods.
