Susquehannock Trail System Map

There are no designated camping locations along the Susquehannock Trail System (STS). The guide book notes 49 different suggested camping locations, but if you find a spot along the trail that you feel is suitable you can camp there. If you are planning a camping trip, whereas you'll be camping at any one location for consecutive nights you need to obtain a camping permit from the DCNR District 15 office.

Cherry Spring Fire Tower

Northern Gateway

Located in Sweden Township, Potter County, along US Route 6 on top of Denton Hill, between Coudersport and Galeton, near Bench Mark 2385. The parking lot for hikers is located behind the Susquehannock State Forest District Office. The Northern Gateway provides access to Lyman Run (clockwise) and Splash Dam (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

West Branch

Cherry Spring Fire Tower

Northern Gateway

 Located in West Branch Township, Potter County, on the south side of the West Branch Road approximately 0.2 mile west of its intersection with the Sunken Branch Road, and less than 0.1 mile east of the Valley View Camp located beside the north end of the Cherry Springs Tower Trail. This is a cluster of permanent state forest leased campsites. There is room for several cars. Please do not block the access driveway to any of the camps. The West Branch trailhead provides access to Cherry Springs (clockwise) and the Lyman Run (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

Cherry Spring Fire Tower

 Located in Abbott Township, Potter County along the Coudersport-Jersey Shore Turnpike (PA Route 44), between Cherry Springs and Carter Camp, approximately 2 miles southeast of Cherry Springs. There is room for several cars to park around the base of the fire tower. Please do not block access to the stone cabin which is leased to a local Boy Scout troop. The Cherry Springs trailhead provides access to the Hogback (clockwise) and Cherry Springs (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

Short Run

Ole Bull State Park

Cherry Spring Fire Tower

 Located near the southern edge of Abbott Township, Potter County along the Cross Fork Road at the junction of Cross Fork Creek, Yochum Run, and Dry (Dead Pig) Hollow, approximately 1.4 miles south of Short Run. The name commemorates the killing of two illegally released feral hogs at this location by a PGC Game Protector and a State Trooper in the mid 1960's. There are a few permanent state forest leased campsites located here. Please do not block the access driveway to any of the camps. The Short Run trailhead provides access to Cherry Run (clockwise) and the Hogback (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

 Located in Stewardson Township, Potter County, along PA Route 144, approximately 1½ miles south of the junction of PA 44 at Oleona. Overnight parking is provided for hikers. When you arrive, please sign the hikers’ roster on the front porch of the park office so that park personnel will know that your car does not belong to a park visitor. The Ole Bull trailhead provides access to Impson Hollow (clockwise) and Cherry Run (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

  Located in Stewardson Township, Potter County, 12 Mile Road intersects Rt 44 3 miles east of Oleona. The STS crosses 12 Mile Road twice with room for parking near each crossing. Please do not block access to driveways or forest roads. The 12 Mile Road trailheads provide access to Young Woman's Creek and Impson Hollow trail sections. Williams' Farm

Cross Fork

   Located in Stewardson Township, Potter County, on the east side of the Little Greenlick Road, approximately 1.3 miles southeast of its intersection with the Shephard Road and 0.2 miles north of the Clinton County Line. Chapman Township, Clinton County has its boundary line sign erroneously located here. This is within earshot of the Greenlick Gas Storage Field compressor station. There is room for parking only two or three cars at a gas well site at the western end of the Italian Hollow Trail. It is very important that any parked vehicle does not block access to the wellhead or any of the gas well access roads that lead from this site. The Greenlink trailhead provides access to the Pipeline Country (clockwise) and Young Woman's Creek (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

   Located in the southwestern corner of Stewardson Township, Potter County close to the Clinton County line. Parking for hikers is available in a small parking lot next to the Susquehannock State Forest Cross Fork Maintenance Division shop behind the fire hall. The Cross Fork trailhead provides access to Hammersley Wild Area (clockwise) and the Pipeline Country (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section

Patterson State Park

   Located in the former East Fork Township (now part of Wharton Township), Potter County, along the East Fork Road, approximately 1¾ miles south of the junction of the Wild Boy Road at Conrad and 8 miles northeast of the junction of Route 872 at Wharton. Parking is available in the field next to the barn. This trailhead is on private property of the late Louise and Harold Williams. The Williams had been very cooperative with the Susquehannock Trail Club since its founding. Their grandson Donald Whitney and his wife Kim now own the property and continue to provide access for hikers as well as camping on the property. Please let Donald or Kim know if you plan to leave your car there overnight. The Williams' Farm provides access to Wild Boy (clockwise) and Hammersley Wild Area (counter clockwise) trail sections.    Located in Summit Township, Potter County, along PA Route 44 approximately 6½ miles south of Sweden Valley. Patterson Park is a State Forest Picnic Area administered by Lyman Run State Park. Facilities include a pavilion, a restroom, and a water well. Please notify Lyman Run Park at (814) 435-5010 of the dates you will be leaving your vehicle overnight at Patterson Park. Patterson Park provides access to Splash Dam (clockwise) and Wild Boy (counter clockwise) trail sections. Below are a list of trails within each section
